Fashion found me during a lockdown, with my mother's
22-year-old sewing machine.
Onyinyechukwu Sandra Okonkwo studied Quantity
Surveying at the University of Lagos. Then a lockdown
changed everything — curiosity became conviction,
a hobby became a house.
The Philosophy
Every woman deserves clothing that was made
specifically for her body.
Not adjusted. Not approximated.
But Clearly Made for Her.
Something came
from nothing.
It started with YouTube tutorials and a sewing machine that had been sitting silent in a corner for over two decades. No mentor. No training. No map. Just a woman who decided that boredom was not a good enough reason to stop becoming.
Her first client came in 2021. From that moment the question was never whether to continue. The question was only how far.
Sandra Lawrence Designs was formally registered in 2023. But the brand was born the day she decided to take herself seriously.
More than a designer.
I am still learning. I am still growing.
And I would not have it any other way.
I am the first daughter and second child in a family of eight. Everything about growing up in that household shaped the woman and the designer I am today. The resilience, the resourcefulness, the quiet determination to figure things out without waiting for permission.
Outside of design, I am someone who loves to explore new places, new experiences, new ideas. I travel. I write. I draw. I am curious about the world and I always have been. Fashion became my greatest outlet, my greatest source of inspiration, my relief.
And building this business? It has been my greatest life tutor. Nothing has taught me more about myself, about resilience, about faith, and about what I am truly capable of than the journey of building Sandra Lawrence Designs from the ground up.
She already knows
who she is.
We design for the woman who moves through life with intention. She does not follow trends. She invests in pieces that mean something. Whether she is in Lagos or London, Abuja or Atlanta, she arrived here because something resonated.
She chooses every detail. Nothing is accidental. Everything she wears says something she means.
